Tamale Pie

Seasoned ground beef is the main ingredient of tamale pie, which is served with a cornmeal crust, a thick enchilada sauce, cheese, and tomatoes on top. A midweek supper would be ideal with this casserole recipe, which is a simple take on tamales.

  • Adjust the oven's temperature to 400°F. Pat a 9-inch pie plate clean and reserve.
  • Put the egg, sour cream, creamed corn, and cornmeal mix into a big basin.
  • Fill the baking dish with the cornbread mixture, and bake for approximately ten minutes. After you add each layer, it won't be finished baking, but it will bake more.
  • Ground beef should be ready while the cornbread is baking. Saute in a big skillet over medium heat until done. Season with salt and add the green chilies. Saute for a further three minutes, stirring to mix.
  • Indent the cornbread with a fork, then cover and fill the holes with the enchilada sauce.
  • Top the cornmeal with the meat mixture and cheese shreds.
  • When the cheese is bubbling and melted, bake it for 25 minutes. Before serving, take it out of the oven and let it cool for a little while.
  • If preferred, top with more toppings while serving, and savor!
